Employee Spotlight September: Nick Rivers

Updated: Apr 17

Introduce yourself:

Hi, I am Nicholas Rivers

How long have you been with Obsidian?

I have been with Obsidian for a little over 4 years.

What is your favorite thing about working at Obsidian?

The hours and for the most part the atmosphere! OK, Seriously, I get to use most of my gifts or talents. Obsidian is a small business and because of that I get to wear many hats. My main job is customer service and sales but it might as well be titled Helping People. I get to help people every day and that is what I believe I was born to do. Whether it’s a co-worker or a customer “I’ve got your back!”

What is something on your bucket list?

SCUBA DIVING!! (In ITALY?) Not that I really want to SCUBA in Italy, but being ½ Italian makes it part of my heritage so why not kill 2 birds with one stone? If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Dare I say Italy? The other side of my family are Europe mutts.. So, Ireland. England (The Lumley Castle), Scotland (Bagpipes and a pint) or Italy.

What has been one of your biggest accomplishments with Obsidian thus far?

When I started with Obsidian Mfg I didn’t have much experience in manufacturing. Due to my life circumstances at that time I was on a new career path. I bounced around for several years trying to find where I fit in. My first accomplishment was being here for 4 years and for the most part – doing what I like to do in helping others. I have also learned a lot about our product lines, our history, manufacturing and the industry. Also, I really liked designing the little cartoons for our website.

Sparky the grind stone
electro chuck
maggie the lift magnet

What is our favorite movie?

C’mon! Just ONE? Anything that has Ryan Reynolds? Will Farrell? Tom Hanks? The Notebook? The Patriot? Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome? Rudy? August Rush? I love movies!!

What is your favorite quote?

Heard: “Your emergency, Mr Rivers, is not my problem” Said: “Help me understand” Especially if the conversation is heated.. and last but not least “You cant workout enough to win over a bad diet” OUCH!! Oh, and one of my favorites “I have a responsibility TO a lot of people – but a responsibility FOR very few.” In other words I have a responsibility TO you but not FOR you”
