Employee Spotlight June: David Nordman

Updated: Apr 17

Introduce yourself:

Hi, I am David Nordman and I am the Vice President for Obsidian Manufacturing!

What year did you get into the manufacturing industry?

1984.

Tell me a little bit about your journey to the position you’re in today.

I began working in manufacturing at Centro-Metalcut, Inc. in 1984. I worked in the shop and made spare parts for Arter surface grinders and their other brands. I worked my way up in the company and eventually was promoted to Vice-President of Manufacturing in 1994. I then moved to Tri-CAM, Inc. as Vice-President before I purchased the Magna-Lock USA brand in 2007, which eventually became Obsidian Manufacturing Industries, Inc.

I’ve worked with our products for decades and currently provide technical support on the machines and services we provide.

What made you go into the manufacturing industry?

At the time I was looking for a better paying job with better benefits when my father-in-law introduced me to the manufacturing industry at Centro-Metalcut, Inc.

How long have you been with Obsidian?

Since 2007, when I first purchased Magna-Lock USA with our current President, Sue Nordman. Since then we’ve added MagnaLift & Power-Grip lift magnets and Arter Precision Grinders. We rebranded in 2018, changing our name to Obsidian Manufacturing Industries, Inc. when we also acquired Stieg Grinding Corporation and began providing surface grinding to our customers.

What is your favorite thing about working at Obsidian?

My favorite thing about working with Obsidian is being able to work with the customers on troubleshooting and finding solutions to their problems.

Where would you like to see Obsidian go in the future?

I would like to grow and improve our four brands of Magna-Lock USA workholding, MagnaLift & Power-Grip lift magnets, and Arter Precision Grinders. I would also like to grow the number of product lines so that we can provide the manufacturing industry with even more solutions to their problems.

What is something you want more people to know about Obsidian?

That we provide solutions to many different manufacturing problems and that all of our products are assembled by our technicians in the USA.
